The 30 Hour Famine

The youth of our church usually participate each year in World Vision's international 30 hour famine. This is a program where the youth fast for 30 hours to get a feeling of what it is like for the children in starving countries. In 2001 they collected $965.00, in 2004 $1557.00 and in 2005 $2209.00 in sponsor money. To help pass the time during the famine the youth did many activities such as bowling, basketball and wiffle ball. They viewed educational videos of hunger around the world. The youth also did volunteer work at the regional food bank in Logan. The fast is broken by a short program and carry in dinner with the whole church congregation. For further information you can go to www.30hourfamine.org The national dates for the famine are in February. ( But you can do it anytime.)

West Pleasant Hill Church Packs Shoe Boxes Every Year For Operation Christmas Child.

For the past several years West Pleasant Hill U.B Church (Rockbridge Ohio) participated in Operation Christmas Child. Everyone at the Church enjoys shopping for and filling a shoe box with small gifts each year. Some of the members of the congregation make this a year long project. Through out the year they will keep an eye out during their routine shopping trips for that very special gift to add to their shoe box. Each box is filled with several items and marked for a boy or a girl of one of three different age groups. Bud & Linda Goss the local coordinators at West Pleasant Hill comment. "It really touches our hearts when we take the shoe boxes to the regional drop off point. It is a great sight to see the many volunteers working with the thousands of shoe boxes that will be packed into the trucks". The congregation at West Pleasant Hill hopes that if your Church has not already participated in Operation Christmas Child that maybe it can next year. It is not too early to start shopping right now. The shoe boxes need to be in to the collection points before Thanksgiving each year.
